Why every president sucked

Give us a king!

For thousands of years and from every nation, this has been the cry of the people. The desire for a king. A king who could lead you in battle. A king who could make you a mighty people. A king who could fix the brokenness around you.

Today we call our “king” president, but the desire is the same.

There have been 43 individuals thus far to hold the office of president. We look back at some of them in the same way we do characters from Greek mythology. But these individuals are not divine. They share our nature, our weaknesses and our shortcomings. And yet, we continue to place expectations on them they cannot possibly live up to.

But I urge you to consider the overarching question. Despite more than 200 years of evidence for futility in the search for presidential perfection, why do we still hold out hope for just that?
